Introduction

The invention consists of a pre-medicated solid hydrogel gauze designed to treat wounds and skin burns, able to prevent the development of microbial infections, thanks to its cytocidal capacity against a wide spectrum of bacterial species generally involved in human skin infections.

Technical features

The innovative pre-medicated gauze contains some active ingredients of natural origin, obtained as by-products of the essential oils production. Thanks to the proposed formula, the solution has antimicrobial properties necessary for antipathogenic activity against different cutaneous bacterial pathogens (eg.Staphylococcus spp, Streptococcus spp, Enterococcus spp, Pseudomonas spp) and fungal ones (eg.Candida spp), which are sensitive or resistant to antimicrobials. The patented solution allows the timed release of the active ingredients contained in the gel. Thus, it enables a continuous and gradual treatment of the damaged skin area, while stimulating a local immune response. Laboratory tests proved its cytocidal properties, investigating on the basic gauze prototype’s performance in vitro.
