Introduction

Functional electrical stimulation (FES) consists in restoring a movement functional to a given action through the application of electrical stimuli. The present invention consists of a modular and multichannel stimulation system for functional electrical stimulation which allows to acquire data, process them and simultaneously generate the appropriate stimulation patterns on the basis of a preset program.

Technical features

Functional electrical stimulation (FES) consists in restoring a movement functional to a certain action through the application of electrical stimuli that cause the contraction of one or more muscles. The FES protocols require the use of multichannel neuromuscular stimulators which currently have the following problems: 1) High weight and bulk. 2) Difficulty in programming the stimulation pattern 3) Difficulty in synchronizing with signal acquisition systems (biomechanical and / or bioelectrical) that can be used as control variables of the stimulation pattern (for example in closed-loop control systems); The invention solves the aforementioned problems through the use of a modular wireless architecture. This feature allows you to reduce the overall dimensions of the device. The presence of a control device allows a high degree of customization of the stimulation protocol.
