HIGH LEVELS OF EMT-TFS FOR CANCER DIAGNOSIS PARTICULARLY COLORECTAL AND PANCREATIC CANCER

Colon CancerEarly diagnosis biomarkersPancreatic Cancer / PDAC ROS

Introduction

Colorectal cancer (CRC) and pancreatic cancer (PC) are two of the most serious cancers afflicting humans. Both have a very high mortality rate. This is due, as regards CRC, to the high aggressiveness of the tumor itself and, for PC, to difficulties related to an early diagnosis of the same tumor. Current diagnostic tools are highly invasive and have low specificity and sensitivity (figs 1 and 2). The development of new non-invasive biomarkers for the early diagnosis of CRC and PC represents a challenging challenge in oncology.

Technical features

Presented is anin vitro diagnostic test for the screening of patients affected by CRC and PC based on biomarkers present in the blood of the cancer patients themselves. Our diagnostic tool has shown sensitivity and sensitivity values of 88% and 70% respectively for the diagnosis of patients with CRC. As far as PC is concerned, our diagnostic test revealed sensitivity and sensitivity values of 99% and 73% respectively (Fig. 3). Due to its range of applicability, competitive values of its specificity and sensitivity, and its operational simplicity, our method has the potential to become an extremely reliable in vitro screening assay for the early and noninvasive detection of CRC and PC.

Possible Applications

  • Colon cancer diagnosis;
  • Pancreatic  cancer diagnosis.
