DIAGNOSTIC KIT FOR INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASES
Introduction
This patented kit for the analysis of faecal samples can diagnose the main chronic Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBDs). The method of peptide extraction and analysis with MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry allows a clear and specific diagnosis of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, in addition to colorectal tumors.

Technical features
This patented diagnostic kit can detect specific peptides within faecal samples in order to diagnose two of the main chronic inflammatory bowel diseases: Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. These conditions often affect young adults, but their onset can also occur in young children. Since symptoms that seem generic could be underestimated for a long time, it causes a delay in specific detection of these illnesses. The current lack of precise and reliable diagnostic methods makes it difficult to carry out a specific and timely diagnosis, necessary to mitigate complications and decrease the chances of developing colorectal cancer over time. With this invention it will be possible to offer a more sensitive, specific and reliable diagnostic kit based on faecal markers for the diagnosis of IBDs.
