Introduction

The invention is a polarizing filter able to rotate autonomously thanks to a mechanical component that allows to acquire a sequence of frames with different polarization and send them to a processing system. The processing includes algoritms evaluation metrics for images selection, allowing to obtain images without the scattering related to the diffusion of the light in the water. The technology can be integrated in underwater cameras, in mobile phones, both for underwater use and in highly reflective light conditions, in an industrial environment to optimize control systems and avoid problems in monitoring reflective surfaces.

Technical features

Underwater vision is subject to phenomena that negatively affect image quality, since the propagation of light is affected by attenuation and scattering. Current solutions include the use of Case to enable to use the mobile phone in the water or the acquisition and merging of up to two images.

The invention instead, a polarizing filter able to rotate autonomously thanks to a special mechanical component, allows to acquire a sequence of frames with different polarization. The acquisition system is therefore connected to the processing system of the collected images, which through traditional improvement algorithms, selects and combines the most significant images through evaluation metrics.
