A miRNAs Pharmaceutical Composition And Its Therapeutic Uses
Introduction
The invention was developed with the aim of identifying a method to generate neurons from neural stem cells, while avoiding the generation of glia. The technology covered by this patent is the basis for the development of potential new therapeutic approaches. These therapies can aim to replace damaged neurons by restoring brain function lost or compromised by neurodegenerative diseases or trauma

Technical features
The invention includes a new combination, called «miRNA pool», micrco RNA (miRNA), a family of small non-coding RNAs that regulates many genes. In particular, the «miRNA pool» consists of 11 miRNAs, which act synergistically in the determination of the fate of neuronal stem cells. In fact, miRNA pool has been shown to be able to direct stem cells towards transformation into new nerve cells. The technology covered by this patent is therefore the basis for the development of potential new therapeutic approaches, for example for degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
Possible Applications
Treatment and prevention of:
- Neurodegenerative disorders;
- Neurodegeneration associated with age;
- Brain tumors (glioblastoma);
- Damage to nerve tissue due to trauma, epilepsy, stroke;
- Depressive.
Advantages
- Controlled generation of neurons in old or damaged brain;
- Prevention of the generation of unwanted cell types (astrocytes);
- Prevention of cancer cells regeneration.
